US Day of Rage Statement on #occupywallstreet

On Sept 17 Mayor Bloomberg and NYPD/CIA occupied Wall Street. At present the NYC General Assembly has assumed full responsibility for the management of consensus building and actions for the the occupation of Wall Street.  Because the NYC-GA does not form relationships nor endorse groups, US Day of Rage cannot take part in strategic decisions in the occupation.

Recently notices have been posted in the park. Mayor Bloomberg's strategy may include portraying the protesters as criminal tress-passers undermining public sympathy in a pet mass-media influenced by the banks & corporations - including the Mayor's media firm of the same name.

That is why US Day of Rage in our organizational efforts in the run up to Sept17, endorsed our tactical plan of occupation of the public sidewalks and not federal, private or park property. That is also why we arranged for legal observers from the National Lawyers Guild and conducted non-violent civil disobedience & legal training sessions open to everyone.

We are encouraged that our efforts have proven successful and that protesters have set the precedent for non-violent actions, and we admire the way the protesters have so far conducted themselves in the face of difficult circumstances.

Mayor Bloomberg's tactics may be to clear Zuccotti Park. US Day of Rage therefore reminds occupiers why we endorsed our plan of occupation of the public sidewalks. The occupation of the public sidewalk is the clearest assertion of 1st Amendment rights, strategically, legally & symbolically.
